It is no longer appropriate to profile users by collecting data regarding their online behaviour; and certainly not to sell those profiles to third parties. There is increasing pressure to manage the data of users of online platforms, websites and apps in a more respectful way. Data Protection Authorities have started to enforce rules and obligations regarding data processing and data protection. This may result in heavy fines in case of violation of the data protection rules.
Studies show that the majority of people that use online services, are willing to share data with the providers of those services, if they have control over how their data will be used. This also increases their trust in digital services.
